Our 6-week Clay Crew programme is perfect for teenagers who love getting creative or want to try something new. These fun, hands-on pottery sessions introduce teens to a variety of pottery techniques, including hand-building, throwing on the wheel, and glazing. Designed for all skill levels, this course fosters self-expression and confidence in a welcoming and inclusive environment.
We are proud to make these sessions accessible for teenagers with SEN. Our small group sizes (maximum 8 participants) ensure personalised support and a safe, relaxed experience for everyone.
At the end of the course, participants will have a collection of their own finished ceramic pieces to take home and showcase!

What’s Included?
All Materials: Clay, tools, and glazes are provided.
Guided Lessons: Expert tuition and step by step guidance.
Firing: All pieces will be fired and glazed, ready to take home after the course.
Small Groups: Maximum of 8 young people per session to ensure individual attention.
Course Schedule
Week 1: Introduction to Clay
Learn the basics of working with clay and using studio tools.
Create simple pinch pots and explore textures and patterns.
Week 2: Coil Building Techniques
Design and build larger forms like vases or bowls using coiling.
Experiment with decorative details for unique designs.
Week 3: Combining Techniques & Wheel Throwing
Bring together pinch, coil, and slab techniques to create a more complex piece.
Introduction to underglazes for adding colour and detail to your work.
Wheel Throwing: (Group A) Introduction to the pottery wheel, focusing on basic skills like centering, opening, and pulling a cylinder. Practice forming simple bowls or small plates.
Week 4: Combining Techniques & Wheel Throwing
Bring together pinch, coil, and slab techniques to create a more complex piece.
Introduction to underglazes for adding colour and detail to your work.
Wheel Throwing: (Group B) Introduction to the pottery wheel, focusing on basic skills like centering, opening, and pulling a cylinder. Practice forming simple bowls or small plates.
Week 5 & 6: Decorating & Glazing
Learn about different glazing and decorative techniques, including painting with underglazes, sgraffito, and resist methods.
Apply these techniques to your pieces, ready for their final firing.
Discuss how glazing affects the look and feel of finished ceramics.
Learn tips for caring for your ceramics at home.
Take all your beautiful hand-made pottery home!
